How to Get the WhatsApp Green Tick (Verified Badge) for Your Business
The green tick next to a business name on WhatsApp is the badge every brand wants — it signals an Official Business Account verified by Meta. But it is widely misunderstood: you cannot buy it, and it is not the same as the "business verification" you do to use the API. Here is the real picture.
Two different "verifications"
People confuse these constantly:
- Business verification (in Meta Business Manager) — confirms your business is a real legal entity. It is required to unlock higher messaging limits on the API, and most businesses complete it. It does not give you the green tick.
- Green tick / Official Business Account — a discretionary badge Meta grants to notable, authentic brands. It is what shows the green checkmark to customers.
So: everyone serious does #1; only some brands get #2.
Who qualifies for the green tick
Meta grants it based largely on brand notability — how well-known and talked-about your business is, especially in third-party news and media (not ads or press releases you paid for). Signals that help:
- Genuine media coverage of your brand
- An established, recognizable presence
- A verified presence on other platforms
- Being an authentic, unique brand (not a duplicate or reseller)
Small or new businesses often won't qualify yet — and that is normal.
How to apply
- Complete business verification in Meta Business Manager first.
- In WhatsApp Manager, open your phone number's settings and look for the Official Business Account request option (sometimes surfaced as a verification request).
- Submit — Meta reviews and decides. There is no guaranteed timeline, and a "no" can be re-attempted as your brand grows.
Your WhatsApp platform can guide you through business verification, but the green tick itself is always Meta's call — no vendor can promise it.
Trust you can build right now (green tick or not)
Most customer trust comes from things you fully control:
- A complete business profile — logo, description, address, website, hours
- A display name that matches your brand
- Fast, professional replies (a shared team inbox helps)
- Verified business status (the checkmark customers see in the profile even before the green tick)
Do those well and you convert customers whether or not the green tick has arrived. When your brand grows notable enough, apply — and in the meantime, get set up on the official API so you are ready.
