Drip Sequences: Re-engage Customers on WhatsApp Automatically

WaYantra Team16 September 2026 2 min read

Most sales are lost to silence, not rejection — a lead goes cold because no one followed up. A drip sequence fixes that: a pre-planned series of WhatsApp messages sent automatically over time, so every contact gets nurtured whether or not a human remembers.

What a drip sequence is

You design a series of steps — message 1 now, message 2 after two days, message 3 after five — and enroll contacts. Each contact then moves through the steps on schedule, on autopilot.

High-value sequences to set up

  1. New-lead nurture — welcome, then value, then a nudge to buy or book.
  2. Onboarding — help new customers get started and stick around.
  3. Win-back — re-engage buyers who haven't purchased in a while with a reason to return.
  4. Post-purchase — thank, ask for feedback, then cross-sell.
  5. Abandoned interest — someone asked but didn't buy; a gentle follow-up recovers many.

How to trigger and re-engage

The practical way to re-engage past customers: tag the segment you want (e.g. "past-buyer" or "cold-lead"), then enroll that tag into a sequence. New contacts who get the tag join automatically. That turns "we should follow up with old customers someday" into something that just runs.

The one rule that trips people up

Later steps almost always fall outside the 24-hour window, so they must be approved message templates, not free text — free text will simply not deliver to a contact who hasn't messaged recently. Plan your sequence as templates from step one. (Full explanation: the 24-hour window & templates.)

Keep it welcome, not spammy

  • Space messages out; don't hammer daily.
  • Make each message genuinely useful or relevant.
  • Always honor opt-outs — a contact who says STOP should exit immediately.
  • Stop the sequence when the goal is met (they bought, they booked).
